Working Out

When it comes to losing weight the first things you hear are, “eat healthy and exercise”.

Pretty easy right? For some it’s just the opposite. I spend a ton of time talking about healthy eating and sharing fun, creative, and healthy recipes that I thought I would touch on exercise. It’s funny because the eating healthy part was harder for me when I started than the exercise. I had always been active. I was probably one of the only 5’2″ 265 pound girls around that could run a mile, dance for hours, and clean my house like a 12 team maid service. Granted I was winded and sweaty….and huffing but I was active. So for those of you out there who find the eating easy, then this post is for you! I’m going to run down the most popular/trendy workouts that are out right now, give you a synopsis of each, and share what my fave workout routines are as well as websites that I find incredibly helpful in the training department. So if you can’t afford that Personal Trainer at the gym, have no fear Girl Gone Healthy is here!

Most Popular/Trendy Workout Routines 2009-2010:

Last year over 1 million people chose Turbo Jam to get the body of their dreams… and now Turbo Jam has been supercharged so you can burn fat and calories to see results faster than ever! It’s fast. It’s fun. It works. GGH comment:Ok I’d rather do Zumba…….LOL! But I hear I would like this class/DVD set. Apparently it’s more hip hop dancing.

Zumba-fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Our goal is simple: We want you to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked. GGH comment:I don’t need to comment, I’m OBSESSED with Zumba!

Jillian Michaels-You may know her simply as the tough-as-nails trainer from TV’s The Biggest Loser, but Jillian wears many different hats: She’s a fitness expert, life coach, author, radio host, blogger, and creator of DVDs, video games, and even a line of apparel. Check out the links below to keep up with her — if you can! GGH comment: With a variety of DVD’s to choose from plus Wii games, you can have your own Last Chance Workout from home!

Wii Fit PLUS-Wii Fit Plus combines fun and fitness into one product. It can change how you exercise, how you balance, and even how you move. Expanding upon the original Wii Fit software, Wii Fit Plus is packed with every feature from Wii Fit—plus new exercises and tools to personalize your exercise routine. If you already have a profile on the original Wii Fit, you can easily transfer it over to Wii Fit Plus. GGH comment: My Wii helped me drop my first 75 pounds! LOVE it! Great for all levels!

    Hi Tera,

It’s been great connecting with you on Twitter (I’m @NU_FiT there) and enjoying your blog, too!

I agree with you that there’s little room for excuses…there’s a plethora of outlets to chose from. As a Certified Personal Trainer, I remind my clients that the strength training we do together is an important piece of the puzzle. Finding an activity you truly enjoy is the best way to incorporate fitness into you’re healthy lifestyle!

As a Nutritional Consultant, I feel strongly that you must also enjoy the foods you eat, as well. The biggest hurdle (haha ~ punny 😉 is reducing the amount of processed foods. From there, you’re pallet will actually change for the better, and you’ll actually enjoy fresh whole foods!

By the way, my favorite ways to get my fitness on are: competitive tennis, intense weight training sessions, tire throwing, and jumping rope!

    Be Well,

    Maximillian Barry, CPT
