Follow Your Dreams

Yesterday I finally opened the scrap booking kit that my Mother In Law gave me for Christmas. It was a wonderful gift that was meant to showcase all of my published articles in RI Mag. Shortly after Christmas RI Mag decided that they didn’t need my services any longer, thus the kit sat collecting dust in my closet. As I started to rearrange my closet and go through my little filing cabinet (mind you I was in one of those woe is me moods) I began smiling to myself. That filing cabinet was FULL of wonderful Girl Gone Healthy memories. From my first check ever written out to Girl Gone Healthy to all of the box tops from the amazing companies who have shared their products with me. I then came across cards from readers thanking me for creating GGH, Christmas cards sent to me and my family from all over the world, and my articles from RI Mag. I sat with all of these wonderful things scattered about, ran my hands across the glossy pages of the magazines featuring MY picture and MY by line, and my mind began to race. I grabbed my once prized notes notebook and flipped through the pages and quickly filled the blank pages with idea after idea after idea. Girl Gone Healthy is over a year old now, I’m not near the same girl I was last year when I began this journey. It’s time to take GGH to the next level and make all of my dreams a reality.

It was time to…..

No one was going to do this for me, no one was going to say hey Tera why don’t you try this today…..We are in control of our own lives, our own destiny. I found it funny how lately I had been watching movies with women doing things I would LOVE to do lately. Maybe not exactly what they were doing, but maybe what I mean is watching women FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS, DOING WHAT THEY LOVED. From Meryl Streep’s character in It’s Complicated, to Amy Adams in Julie and Julia, and Hillary Swank in PS I Love You, all women enjoying the fruits of their labor-being successful- and not giving a damn about who was along for the ride.

Before I knew it 3 pages had been filled in that notebook, a Girl Gone Healthy bucket list if you will. While I don’t feel that I can share the entire list with you all, some of the things even seem far fetched to me, I will share some of the things I’d like to start with first. I hope you will indulge me in sharing these ideas with you, and maybe some of you have done some of these things and could offer advice. So here goes….

-Begin writing again, for a magazine-newspaper….something. I love being given an assignment and the freedom to be creative.

-Start a catering business…..I love to cook, and when I do it’s usually in large amounts. I love making people happy through food.

-Dedicate a section of GGH to Zachary…talk about his Autism, talk about his therapies, connect with other mom’s/families, take my advocating to the next level.

-Somehow get a job working with Early Intervention….I love my team of people, I love Zachary’s school The Groden Center, I want to help people “accept” the journey that has been placed before them and their child, I want to cry with them, revel in their victories, I want to make a difference for others like a difference has been made for me.

-Become a certified Zumba instructor or find somewhere to teach dance….dance was a HUGE part of my life growing up and into my teenage years, I miss it, I love “performing”, love the way it feels to be lost in the music and inspire others to let go and have fun.

-Run a 5k…..don’t care if I don’t run the whole time, it’s time to stop making excuses and sign up-and actually show up 😉

That was just 1/2 of the 1 st page. I think that’s a good place to start, my plate is already pretty full but I’ve never been one to say no to seconds ;).

So my friends, find your place in this world. Grab a notebook and sit in a quiet place and let your dreams flow through your pen. Don’t say I’ll do it someday, don’t say I’m to old, don’t say I CAN’T……say I can, I will, and my someday is TODAY.

Thank You for allowing me to share my life with all of you, thank you for reading, thank you for the emails that randomly pop up just when I need them, thank you for believing in me…..now I just need to believe in myself.

  1. You can DO this! 🙂 I was just having a conversation with a friend about follow my dreams and it’s time I started doing more, and talking less. Basically it came down to this: If I stop the negative self talk and start being nice to myself, then I HAVE to follow my dreams – because I can’t have it both ways! Keep your head up, and do what you gotta do. 🙂
