30 minutes with Gym Source

My friends over at Gym Source are promoting 30 minutes of movement a day and if you’re a GGH reader/follower you know I’m a big fan of the good ol 30 minutes a day. Jim, Head Creative Writer for Gym Source, whipped up this article to share with all of you in hopes of getting YOU to move for at least 30 minutes a day. Take a look and leave them some love.

Exercise is Healthy and Fun!

You can get a lot accomplished in 30 minutes. You can clean the house or clean out your car. You can run a few errands or take a shower. You can get dinner ready, dress the kids for school, or sit down and relax with a cup of coffee. In 30 minutes you can improve your entire quality of life, lose weight, feel better, eliminate some stress in your life, and add a few years to your life. Medical professionals recommend that everyone get a very reasonable 30 minutes of exercise on a daily basis to significantly increase quality of life. If all it takes to look better and live longer is to exercise for 30 minutes per day, more people should do it!

Regular exercise offers people a number of health benefits, including a longer life. If you exercise regularly, you lower your risk of disease and make your body healthier. You have a smaller risk of becoming diabetic, having heart disease, suffering from obesity, and even from being diagnosed with certain forms of cancer if you exercise. Furthermore, exercise can improve your mood. The reason for this is that exercise releases endorphins in your body that make you feel good! The chemical overrides the hormones that cause you to feel stress and anxiety, which puts you in a better mood. When you are in a better mood your entire quality of life improves. People with a good quality of life are more likely to live longer and to live healthier, and who wouldn’t welcome that into their life?

The problem with exercise is that so many people rationalize not doing it by saying they don’t have the time. Since medical professionals say you only need 30 minutes a day of exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a great body, you can find the time.

Indoor Exercise

When you’re at home you can still exercise. You don’t have to go to the gym, and you certainly don’t need a houseful of home gym equipment. However, a few pieces of equipment wouldn’t hurt. Treadmills and ellipticals are great pieces to have if you want to work out at home. You can put either piece in front of your television and spend 30 minutes climbing or walking while you watch the morning news or catch up on your favorite primetime dramas. It’s easier to exercise if it doesn’t feel like work and you aren’t counting the minutes. Your favorite television show will distract you, and you might even get more exercise than your necessary 30 minutes. DVDs are great forms of exercise if you buy yoga or dance DVDs. You can exercise while your kids sleep or while they nap. You can even make a game out of your exercise routine by working out during every commercial break during your favorite shows. You can do 100 jumping jacks anytime a character on television uses the word “Hi” and 50 lunges when a character uses the word “okay.” You can pick any exercise and any word you want to make this exercise fun and beneficial. Get creative with it! Anything can be exercise if you make it so!

Outdoor Exercise

Exercising outdoors is one of the most fun ways to workout because you can do just about anything outdoors. You can run, swim, bike, hike, walk, jog, rollerblade, or play with your kids. You can join a sports team and workout like that or you can garden. Gardening is a great form of exercise because it works your muscles in a good way. All of your outdoor exercises offer an additional benefit to your body and health; working out outside allows you to be in direct sunlight, which produces more good chemicals in your body and makes your mood lift, your depression disappear, and your quality of life better.

Spending 30 minutes a day exercising is a relatively small amount of time. You don’t have to do it all at once, either. You can spend 10 minutes working out whenever you get the opportunity and continue to do that throughout the day. Exercising is going to give you the ability to live longer, healthier, and happier. There is nothing that exercise doesn’t benefit, especially if it is combined with a healthy diet. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring or a drag; you can have as much fun with it as you want!

I think my biggest misconception about exercise is that it has to be done all at the same time, or that short sessions of movement don’t really count. Any movement is better than none, and exercise should be fun. Great post!
